Official Document Photo Requirements
Understand the exact specifications your document photos need to meet for proper acceptance.
Universal Photo Standards
Regardless of the specific document type, most government agencies require photos that meet a set of universal standards. Understanding these standards ensures your application is processed without delays. Our team stays up to date with every regulation to ensure your photos meet acceptance requirements.
All document photos must have a plain, light-colored background, consistent and even lighting with no harsh shadows, a clear and focused image showing your full face, and a neutral facial expression with both eyes open. The photo must be recent, typically taken within the last six months, and accurately represent your current appearance.

Key Requirement Details
Critical details you should know before getting or submitting your document photos.
Photo Dimensions
Most US documents require a 2x2-inch photo (51x51mm). The head height from chin to crown must be between 1 inch (25mm) and 1-3/8 inches (35mm). We use precision tools to verify every measurement.
Background Color
A plain white or off-white background is mandatory for US passports and visas. We use professional backdrops designed to produce a clean, uniform background that meets all official standards.
Lighting Standards
Even, balanced lighting with no visible shadows on your face or background is required. Studio-grade lighting equipment eliminates glare and ensures consistent exposure across the entire image.
Expression and Pose
Maintain a neutral expression with both eyes open and your mouth closed. Face the camera directly with your head centered and not tilted. No hats or head coverings unless worn for religious purposes.
Preparing for Your Photo Session
Simple tips to help you get the best results during your visit to our studio.
Dress Appropriately
Wear clothing that contrasts with the white background. Avoid white tops and busy patterns. Solid, darker colors work best for a clean result.
Remove Accessories
Take off glasses, headphones, and non-religious head coverings before your session. This helps avoid reflections and shadows in the final photo.
Allow Enough Time
While our sessions are typically 10 to 15 minutes, arriving a few minutes early ensures a relaxed experience and gives us time to review your specific document requirements.
